Root Canal Therapy
Root Canal Therapy, also known as endodontic treatment, is a sequence of treatments which eliminate infection in a tooth and can prevent the need for dental implants or prosthetic teeth.
At the center of your tooth is the pulp, more commonly known as the nerve of the tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures.
Symptoms of the infection can be identified as spontaneous ache, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums upon biting or chewing, loosening of the tooth, swelling in the gum adjacent to the tooth or even facial swelling.
Root canal therapy may be an effective option for avoiding tooth extraction and restoring your smile’s function and health. Our experienced Citra Dentist will first remove the infected dental pulp and will clean the root canal system thoroughly. The Dentist will then fill in the remaining tooth structure, and finally cap the tooth with a dental crown to protect it and to restore its shape and function.
This treatment may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Even though root canal therapy is a somewhat invasive dental procedure, we use local anaesthesia so you don’t have to feel any pain during your treatment. Some patients may experience a little pain after the procedure, but most experience very little discomfort. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.
If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavourable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during the treatment. The cost of Root Canal Therapy is often cheaper than extracting or replacing a tooth.
